Students in one-to-one classes consistently learn more and outperform their peers in traditional classrooms. One-to-one students spend more time learning and develop more positive attitudes towards learning and school. Educational research consistently shows that one-to-one teaching increases students’ achievement by a factor of two standard deviations versus traditional classroom instruction. In real terms, two standard deviations means improvement in grades of about two levels - from a C to an A!

The positive impact of one-to-one teaching boosts summative achievement scores by TWO STANDARD DEVIATIONS vs conventional classroom teaching
Achievement distribution for students under conventional, mastery learning, and tutorial instruction
Conventional Classrooms (Ratio of 1 teacher to 30 students)
Baseline for comparison. Students took periodic tests on the material for grades.
Mastery Learning (Ratio of 1 teacher to 30 students) Students took periodic tests to evaluate their progress. If necessary, they received additional teaching and re-tested on the material until earning at least an 80%. Mastery learning strategies resulted in students performing 1 sigma above the average of the control class, e.g. a one grade increase from a B to an A.
Tutorial Teaching (ratio of 1 teacher to 1 student) resulted in the average student performing 2 sigma above the average of the control class, e.g. a two grade increase C to A. Significantly, the need for corrective work for tutorial students was very small.

When I read the teacher comments on my daughter’s first Signature One-to-One report card, I knew we had made the right decision. For the first time in as long as I can remember, my daughter’s teachers really know my kid! They know her as a student and as a person, and she has made so much progress in all her courses because of that.
